Best puppies food

Depending on its age, physical activity, or specific needs (e.g. pregnant dog), the dog's diet may vary. You can feed your pet in two ways: thanks to a homemade or industrial diet (pasta or croquettes).

Dog feeding: what are the specifics?

The dog's diet will depend as much on its breed and weight as on its lifestyle:

From a few hundred grams to 100 kg, dogs possess the widest variety of morphologies of the animal kingdom within a single species. So you don't feed a chihuahua like a mastiff! It is important to know the specifics of each breed to provide the food that suits them.

Besides, depending on whether the dog is sedentary or sporty, it will not have the same dietary needs. A dog that plays sports or hunts, for example, needs a diet that is richer in protein and slow sugars during hunting or competition to develop better resistance to stress.

Dog feeding: when to give meals?

An adult dog eats once or twice a day. If it is particularly gluttonous, it is better to give it your ration in two, to facilitate digestion:

Large dogs, which are more often prone to stomach twisting, must eat twice. Eating quickly promotes this very serious, often fatal condition.

Similarly, it is not advisable to feed a dog just after a walk. If the dog has exercised, it is best to let him rest before giving him his pie or croquettes to avoid any risk of stomach twisting.

Should the dog's meals be varied?

While it may seem monotonous to eat the same thing, dogs do not feel the need to change their diet. It is therefore quite possible to give them the same food for the rest of their lives, adapting it of course to their nutritional needs.

If it is necessary to change the dog's diet following a health problem, it is recommended to proceed gradually, especially if the change is radical (from pie to croquettes, for example). In this case, the new food must be introduced over several days, incorporating the new food into the old one in small quantities.

Dog feeding: beware of nutritional errors!

If you want to give your dog a home-cooked diet, ask your veterinarian for advice to establish a typical menu with him and gather all the useful information, because

- You should be careful not to cause deficiencies in your dog.

- Dogs are prone to food poisoning with foods that we consider common.
